PEACE EDUCATION
According to Wikipedia Peace education is the process of acquiring the values, the knowledge and developing the attitudes, skills, and behaviors to live in harmony with oneself, with others, and with the natural environment.
Nonviolence and social justice are the core value of peace education respecting human rights, freedom and principle of equality. Peace and security are an essential factor of human life and to every society, since it affects all aspects of economic and development in a country. Palestine and Israel conflict, Pakistan and India conflict fighting for Kashmir, Syria conflict and many others conflicts around the globe are struggling to achieve peace and stability. The effects from these conflicts are both direct and indirect and are associated with immediate and long-term harm.
Peace cannot be just the absent of war, it has other elements that make peace a reality such as justice. Peace as an enduring value can be achieved only when it is based on justice. All other options are doomed to fail. The history of modern conflicts is a sad testimony to this simple fact.
It is important Peace education programes to be delivered to civil society groups, school, leaders and other community institutions at local, national and international level and on different settings. Most importantly peace education helps young people to gain knowledge, enhance their skills in the peace and form an attitude about the meaning of peace in human life.
Be helpful to others when you can, write a blog about promoting peace, study nonviolence, conflict management, conflict resolution and peace studies, make a personal commitment to nonviolence are some of the ways to promote peace and to strengthen social fabric of the society.
United Nation Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 for 2030 is Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels. There can be no sustainable development without peace and NO peace without sustainable development.
